The one part of the Riot that I’ve sucked balls on is consumer spending. This is because I like to shop. As much as I hate to admit it, I buy things when I’m bored. When I’m not feeling so great about life. When I’m stressed out. Hell, I got up this morning and ordered a couple of things from Lehman’s. I have 3 bids on sets of dipes on eBay, won 3 others. Various books are being shipped this week. None of these are things I really need. It will be easier to have more diapers, and I’ll be happy to have a reusable coffee filter and dustpan that won’t break. But necessary? Nah.
Now, I’m not ready to give up buying things altogether because that just isn’t realistic. But I am going to set a goal for the month of January to not buy any non-necessity that I haven’t already committed to purchase. That means no more eBay, no more Amazon. No impulse shopping. No trying to use stuff to meet an emotional need.
